Overview: For more than a century, Kraus-Anderson has been transforming the American landscape.

Founded in 1897 and privately owned and managed by the Engelsma family for more than 65 years, KA is consistently ranked by Engineering News Record among the top 50 general contractors in the United States. Our base of operations in Minnesota is supplemented with regional offices, extending our capabilities coast to coast.

We take a highly collaborative approach to our work. We work closely with owners, architects and the rest of the planning team well before ground is broken; providing cost analyses, scheduling information, and value engineering services in order that the client can make informed decisions leading to a timely finish of the highest quality and the best value.

The Kraus-Anderson Story: Kraus-Anderson was founded in 1897 by James L. Robinson, builder of several Minneapolis landmarks. In 1929 Robinson retired, selling the company to two employees just months before the stock market crash. Mathew Kraus and Amos Anderson changed the name and labored through the Depression building mostly gas stations and sidewalks.

The long term future of the company was shaped when in 1933 Kraus and Anderson hired as office manager and estimator a young man named Lloyd Engelsma. Engelsma purchased the company's very modest assets in 1937 and led the company to prosperity for 60 years. In 1997 he turned the reins over to his son, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bruce Engelsma.

Today Kraus-Anderson Construction Company ranks among the top 50 domestic building contractors nationwide. The company serves as general contractor, construction manager or design/builder on over 500 projects a year, ranging from small remodeling jobs to major corporate complexes.

Lloyd passed away in 1997, but his guiding principals of fair play and keeping the customer happy continue to serve Kraus-Anderson companies' ever-increasing circle of activities.

Mission: The mission of Kraus-Anderson Construction is to serve our customers by providing superior construction services that complete projects on time, add value and are cost effective.

We are dedicated to achieving company objectives and maintaining financial stability through the pride and commitment to excellence of our employees and business partners.

Service: Early KA involvement is critical to maximizing the success of your project. We join the project team as the early concepts and designs are being developed, providing input and analyses that allow you to make informed decisions and achieve the highest-quality results.

Historic Renovation: As KA is a 110 year old company, some of our early projects are now considered historic buildings. The 1917 Minneapolis YMCA orginally built by KA was renovated into The LaSalle Apartment in 1994 while maintaining its historic character.

We respect a building's historical character and understand the need to strike a balance between the sometimes conflicting goals of preserving a building's hisotric integrity and using contemporary building systems to achieve optimal funtion.
